Film Production

Coláiste Dhúlaigh's Film Production course was launched in September 2001 and has continued to expand its horizons since its inception.

One of the big stories of the course has been the success of graduate film Larry the Bastard directed by Martina Carey and Amanda Mulderry. Larry has been screened on BBC and RTE as well as receiving a screening at the Galway Film Fleadh. The film has also been acquired for distribution by Network Television Ireland. The screenplay for Larry was nominated for Film Script of the Year at the 2005 Oxygen SMEDIA Awards. Other graduate films to receive screenings on RTE include Stalking Colin Farrell and Elvis and Monsters.

In 2007 Film Production student Shane Collier won a SMEDIA Award for Film Script of the Year. Shane's script is entitled A View From the Top. BAFTA Award winning film director Damien O'Donnell presented Shane with his award at a special reception in Coláiste Dhúlaigh.

Damien O'Donnell (Inside I'm Dancing, Heartlands, East is East and Thirty Five Aside) is the Patron of Coláiste Dhúlaigh's Film Production Course. Damien is a graduate of Coláiste Dhúlaigh. As Patron, he visits the college annually to give a presentation, talk or workshop to the students. The teaching team also features plenty of industry experience with director Frank Berry (The Black Suit, Teenage Cics) and screenwriter Robert J Quinn (The Black Suit, A Basket Full of Wallpaper) among the tutors.
